Restaurante Pipa Redonda Évora Portugal

The lunch stop of on the  Cooltour Lisbon‘s Alentejo Wine Tour from Lisbon Including Lunch was Restaurante Pipa Redonda in Évora Portugal. Évora is a pleasant 30 minute drive from the Ervideira Winery and is the capital of Portugal’s Alentejo region and looks like a spot to return to for a few days to check out the place and, maybe, a winery or three.

Restaurante Pipa Redonda was full with a mix of locals and groups when we arrived, which is usually a good sign. As an added bonus there was a nice local feel about the place. After our wine tasting at Adega Ervideira we were ready for some Portuguese Food before the our next tasting.

Cachopas Cheese

To start with we had Cachopas Cheese. A cheese that is made from a combination of cows and sheep milk. Basically you cut its top off and scoop the soft cheese out and apply to some crusty fresh bread. Very tasty!!

Açorda de Bacalhau (Codfish Bread Soup)

Next up was Açorda de Bacalhau (Codfish Bread Soup) which is egg and cod-fish with coriander, lemon and garlic soup. We tried this the night before at restaurant in Lisbon and it was dull and boring, this was the complete opposite. Lots of flavour, the cod was cooked to perfection. Once the food is served at the table you add the fresh crusty bread to the soup and then, once it has softened, it is time to eat!

Secreto Pork

The next course was Secreto Pork. The pan-fried Pork was amazing, rich with a ton of flavour. Secreto Pork is a highly marbled cut of pork, but not too fatty, from pigs that have been fed acorns to give it is rich flavour. My favourite dish of the meal.

The Wine

Restaurante Pipa Redonda
When in Portugal, in Alentejo, on a wine tour or all of the above you need wine. We had the house red, no idea of who made it guessing it was from a local producer, but it was pretty good, crimson red in colour, pleasant nose, structured palate with firm, savoury tannins and medium finish. I give it a 3 out 5

Dessert

The last course was dessert, chocolate mousse and Natas do Ceu, Cream from Heaven, they looked great. Left the tasting to Kelly and Tony.

Restaurante Pipa Redonda

If you are in Alentejo and especially in Évora Restaurante Pipa Redonda is a must. Great food and ambiance with local charm, not sure about the pricing, but believe it is pretty good.

The Secreto Pork is a must, the Açorda de Bacalhau is a close second. When I am back in that part of the world I will be heading back. Can’t wait!!
