Day 8 – Paamiut Greenland – well another day at sea

Paamiut was meant to be our first port of a call in Greenland, unfortunately, due to thick fog, we were not able to get to Paamiut. The fog would have also made it very unsafe for us to anchor and conduct transfers via tenders to shore.

Your eyes are not playing tricks this is how thick the fog was from my balcony

So the decision was made for us to remain at sea and head for Nuuk Greenland.

With fog the speed of the ship was slowed and the fog horn needs to be sounded at regular intervals. What was “interesting” is that the most expensive cabins onboard are on the directly below where the fog horn is, hope that they have great sound proofing as the horn is loud! Better safe than sorry.

As we had to slow down, there is a risk that we will not be able to make it to Nuuk, Greenland, in time for us to dock and still have time to explore the place.

Sette Mari

After another quiet day it was time to head to Sette Mari for dinner. The fog had hung around all day, so the risk of missing Nuuk was increasing, not great news.

Carbonara Penne
Pretty good, though not as smokey as New Ubin Seafood Singapore’s smoked pork carbonara.

2020 Fonte Frontini Nero D’Avola, Sicily, Italy

Bakery Hill Cask Strength Single Malt, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Appearance:Vibrant, rich amber
Nose:An attractive mixture of vanilla, almond, sweet and dark chocolate aromas
Palate:Bold rich and sweet but not cloyingly. Nice combination of sensations,
Finish:Looooong and enjoyable
Oz’s Rating:4 out of 5
My only negative is that it was a bit too peaty for me, otherwise would have rated it higher.

This was a 50th present from one of my Godfathers, so extra special! Thanks Vaughan.

Clearing Skies

Thankfully after dinner in the time it took to go from the restaurant to a bar on deck 4 the fog had cleared and we were able to pick up speed, so the chance of making Nuuk has increased.

We were also able to catch our first glimpses of Greenland. Looking forward to Nuuk tomorrow, fingers crossed.
