Day 7 – Arctic Ocean

Day 7 on the Arctic Ocean was a milestone day for me. I have now sailed upon, sometimes under, all of the oceans in the world.

Another calm day at sea

Seven Seas Society Cocktail Party

Today was also the day that the Seven Seas Society cocktail party was held. The Seven Seas Society is Regent’s loyalty programme, you get signed up for it from the first day you set sail on one of Regent’s ships. There are a few perks with it as you sail more, but a number of the perks that you used to get as you sailed more are now being provided as a part of the standard package. Laundry is now included for everyone, excludes dry cleaning, but that was a nice find when I boarded.

Not that exciting a party, a few speeches about how we are “family” and that this cruise was the designated Annual Reunion Cruise. The why this was the case is easy, the big boss has never been to Greenland and Iceland. Nice to be in charge! To be honest I would do the same if I had the chance!

A nice touch was caviar….

Iceberg!

Another milestone for me was the sighting of my first iceberg. No one believed me until I showed them the pictures. I didn’t have my camera with me at the time, so had to use my phone… Not bad Mr Samsung…

Prime 7

Dinner tonight was in Prime 7, the hardest place to get a table on the ship. Time to find out why.. On previous cruises on Regent I have not had as much of a challenge getting a table in Prime 7 as this time, usually I just ask the Maître d for a table and end up with a table towards the end of their service. Not so on this cruise, which is more surprising considering it was not a full ship.

Black Angus Tartare
Nicely presented, great flavours and textures. Really enjoyed the hint of wasabi.
Excellent!

Red Wine 2

2022 Sterling Vinter’s Collection, Cabernet Sauvignon, Central Coast, California, USA

Bakery Hill Cask Strength Single Malt, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Appearance:Vibrant, rich amber
Nose:An attractive mixture of vanilla, almond, sweet and dark chocolate aromas
Palate:Bold rich and sweet but not cloyingly. Nice combination of sensations,
Finish:Looooong and enjoyable
Oz’s Rating:4 out of 5
My only negative is that it was a bit too peaty for me, otherwise would have rated it higher.

This was a 50th present from one of my Godfathers, so extra special! Thanks Vaughan.

Main Course

Bone in Ribeye, with twice baked potatoes and sauted mushrooms
The steak looked awesome and tasted even better, cooked to perfection, medium-rare.
Another bonus is that they have REAL hot English mustard onboard, been a struggle on previous cruises to find it. The horseradish was good as well.

Prime 7 – The Real Deal

If you excuse the two very average wines and focus on the great service and the excellent food you can understand why Prime 7 is the popular. I would not say it is any better than Chartreuse, the service and quality of the food are very similar, the wine in Chartreuse was definitely better overall, so I think a lot of people are missing out by not dining there more often.

That being said, I will definitely be back in Prime 7 as often as I can, have a couple of decent reds of my own that will be very good with the steak.

Day 7 – Arctic Ocean

A day of two milestones, sailing all of the Oceans of the World and seeing my first Iceberg. It was another enjoyable relaxing day at sea.

Tomorrow we arrive at our first port of call in Greenland, Paamiut. Some of the passengers onboard are getting a bit restless after only 3 days at sea…

Next up Paamiut..

Cheers!

Tricky name that dessert wine. (I still reckon the iceberg is a piece of Amazon.com packaging…)

The wine tasted good. Your reckoning has not been known to be that good previously…

Lots of cruises to chose from in the US, or just hop on a plane.. There are even winery cruises to chose from. Recommend finding one which will allow you to bring a few bottles of your own as well.
