Embarkation day for my Atlantic Crossing came around quickly.
My Last Rio Sunrise (for now)

As per all my days in Rio the sunrise was something to enjoy. My room in the Sheraton Grand had a small balcony so I was able to get a few decent shots of the sunrise and the nearby favela.
A few shots from the pool area.
Embarkation
After a quick hotel buffet breakfast it was time to check out and wait for my transfer to the Regent Seven Seas Splendor. I was lucky enough to be on the second bus, so would be getting on board fairly quickly.
I am always amazed by how people seem to be surprised that there will be others doing the same as them and checking out at the same time and also looking for a spot to wait for the transfer to the ship. Check out a little earlier and avoid the crowd whilst also being able to find a place to wait without too much difficulty.
When we arrived at the wharf we were politely herded into the embarkation hall to check in on board. This was fairly painless, hand over your passport, get your mug shot taken, confirm your credit card and collect your key card. After that it was time to board the Regent Seven Seas Splendor and for me to find my friends. As per usual they were at the pool grill having lunch.
My Suite
My suite was available on time at 2pm, so time to check it out…
The suites on board the RSS Splendor are definitely a step up from the other ships I have been on. Well appointed with a smart layout.
I think I will survive 🙂 Not sure how I am going to handle returning to reality in a couple of weeks.
My suite was on Deck 12, which is the second highest deck on the ship and away from any of the main thoroughfares on board. Definitely a good location. Not great if you are prone to sea sickness and transiting the high seas…

Pacific Rim

Dinner on my first night was in Pacific Rim which is the Asian Restaurant that was added to the Regent restaurant offerings since the addition of the RSS Explorer. This would be my first experience in Pacific Rim.
The food was pretty good, though I was disappointed with the Siu Mai. It was bland. The other dishes tasted as good as they looked. Looking forward to dining here again as they also have chili padi.
A nice touch to wind up the meal is the serving of sake, hot or cold, your choice.
A Night Cap
After a good start to my cruise it was time to check out their espresso martinis.

Not bad.
Our first port of call is tomorrow, so an earlyish night was on the cards.
Next up Cabo Frio, Brazil.
