And now back to normal transmission. 2017 March Wine Reviews is my first set of Wine Reviews for 2017, I have a lot of catching up to do!

Varietal: 38% Chardonnay 33% Pinot Noir 29% Pinot Meunier

Colour: Brilliant light golden straw
Bead: Small, persistent bubbles
Aroma: Perfume of yeast, baked goods, citrus and spice aromas
Palate: Refreshing, rich, toasty
Finish: Long

Comment: A good quality Champagne. Definitely would not say know to another chance to taste this.
2 Name: Domaine Potinet-Ampeau Meursault
Vintage: 1999
Region: Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France
Varietal: Chardonnay
Alcohol: 13.5%
Colour: Bright yellow straw
Aroma: Enjoyable mixture of hazelnut and butter aromas
Palate: Balanced, rich
Finish: Medium
3 Name: Remoissenet Pere & Fils Les Marconnets Premier Cru
Vintage: 2002
Region: Beaune 1er Cru, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Alcohol: 13.5%
Colour: Crimson-Brick
Aroma: Combination of cherry, earthy and spice aromas
Palate: Balanced, smooth
Tannin: Savoury
Finish: Medium

Comment: Not the best Burgundy I have been lucky enough to try, but still worth a try.
4 Name: Robert Ampeau et Fils Pommard
Vintage: 1999
Region: Pommard, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Alcohol: 13%
Colour: Mid Ruby-Brick
Aroma: Fragrant combination blackberry, blackcurrant and herbs aromas
Palate: Medium-bodied, balanced, youthful
Tannin: Fine
Finish: Long

Comment: IMHO a step up on the previous wine. Needs time in the glass to open up, drinking well now.
5 Name: Pepper Tree Grand Reserve
Vintage: 2004
Region: Wrattonbully, South Australia, Australia
Varietal: Merlot
Alcohol: 14.5%
Colour: Mid Ruby
Aroma: Pleasant mix of plum, mocha and hint of leather aroma
Palate: Medium-Full bodied, balanced
Tannin: Subtle
Finish: Long

Comment: Not what I would expect from a Merlot, still enjoyable, would be a good wine for an Options Game
6 Name: James Irvine Merlot Royale Deluxe
Vintage: 2005
Region: Eden Valley, South Australia, Australia
Varietal: Merlot
Format: Magnum
Alcohol: 14.5%
Colour: Youthful ruby
Aroma: Mix of raspberries, plum, and tobacco aromas
Palate: Full-bodied, smooth
Tannin: Silky
Finish: Long

Comment: Considering this is meant to be the finest Merlot from Australia it was disappointing, still a good quality wine, but not worth the AUD250 price tag.
7 Name: Cascina Bruni Barolo Batistot Riserva
Vintage: 2006
Region: Barolo DOCG, Italy
Varietal: Nebbiolo
Alcohol: 15%
Colour: Red-brick
Aroma: Combo of rose, liquorice and earthy aromas
Palate: Full-bodied, balanced, lush, smooth
Tannin: Silky
Finish: Long

Comment: A very enjoyable Barolo, liked the silky tannins and long finish.
8 Name: Penfolds Bin 389
Vintage: 1994
Region: Barossa Valley, South Australia, Australia
Varietal: Cabernet Shiraz
Alcohol: 13.5%
Colour: Youthful deep crimson
Aroma: Perfumed mix of blackberry, plum, chocolate and a hint of mint aromas
Palate: Full-bodied, structured, lush
Tannin: Silky
Finish: Long

Comment: What a wine to finish off on. Still presents as a very youthful wine considering its age, still has a few years in it yet. WoWx3. Bin 389 is always a great wine, especially when cellared well like this bottle was.
9 Name: Ashton Hills Clare Valley Sparking Shiraz
Vintage: 1994
Region: Clare Valley, South Australia, Australia
Varietal: Shiraz
Alcohol: 13%
Colour: Deep crimson red
Bead: Tight, fine bubbles
Aroma: Fragrant mix of cherry, violet, chocolate and mint aromas
Palate: Medium-bodied, elegant, balanced
Tannin: Fine
Finish: Long

Comment: A great example of Australian Sparkling Shiraz. Balanced, elegant, enjoyable, can't wait until my next excuse, any day that ends in a "Y".

    Very interesting line up. I had sparkling Shiraz only once – we don’t get too many here in US… Would love to try one again.

      Would like to be the one to share your next one with. The 2009 Ashton Hills was last years Australian Sparkling Red of the year. It is pretty good, not sure it was the best, but I happy to say I have a couple more bottles. Cheers!
